Seventh Sanctum isn't the only thing I do – I do work on other sites, speak, coach, and more. To keep people up on those "pro-geek" efforts, I started a newsletter called The Geek Beacon. New Contest: Fantasy Fusions!

Posted by Steven Savage on February 6, 2011

You can see the contest details here: http://www.seventhsanctum.com/contests.php

This contest runs from February 1st to April 15th, Midnight EST.

What is it about fantasy adventure and crossbreeds between humans and something else? It might be the half-demon hunkiness of Inu-Yasha, the otherworldly half-humans of Lovecraft, and your usual legion of half-elves with FANTASTIC hair?

OK I don't KNOW what it's about but I do know that it gives artists a chance to get seriously creative once you toss a little magic into two sets of DNA. That's right Sanctumites, it's time to get out the pens, tablets, costumes, and more and create yourself a Fantasy Crossbreed!

Go to the Fantasy Crossbreed Generator and generate a character – and portray them artistically!

Of course you know how it goes here in Sanctumland – don't just draw, go farther! Can you give us a backstory? Can you portray the character in acton? Can you give their game stats? Can you portray them in pastry-related form?

Go for it! Do it for all the legion of characters who celebrate Father's Day or Mother's Day by trying to figure out how to mail a card to another dimension!

Rules:

  • You may make up to two entries. You may not reuse results among entries.
  • You may use other generators if you wish to add more contents or detail to the entry.
  • You may submit "for fun" entries as many times as you want. These are entries entered with no goal of them being judged, but to share with others. You may swap "for fun" and official entries at any time.
  • You may use ANY medium as long as you can eventually put it on the web as an image – painting, CGI, cosplay, sculpture, baked goods, etc.
  • You are responsible for hosting your entry in an image format at your own site, deviantart, photobucket, or another such place etc. Direct submissions of art will be rejected in most cases.
  • If your entry has nudity or mature content, you are responsible for warnings or proper classifications on the storage site. There will be a warning on the link from the contest page to the art. Please keep things within reasonable good taste.
  • If at all possible, post generator results at your hosting site so people can judge how well you followed them. I must have the generator results there, or sent to me as part of your submission, so the judges know what results you used.
  • Entries must be made specifically for this contest – previous entries or other generator-driven art may not be used.
  • Please post a link back to this page with the entry.

Looking for an opinion here

Posted by Steven Savage on February 4, 2011

I'm going to be moving the Seventh Sanctum blog to wordpress – and am debating moving it to a more appropriate "non-seventh-sanctum" domain.  This one would allow me to run the blog as part of the Sanctum AND engage in related efforts, have guests, etc.  I was thinking of focusing on creativity hacks as well as posting useful links.

Thoughts on that?  I want to start building a community around the posts to the blog – but right now the domain is . . . "Seventhsanctumblog.com".  I have another "more appropriate" but don't want to do anything that confuses people.
